How to Flash Nokia N9 with PR 1.1 on any Nokia N9 variant having similar Storage Capacity

1. Download all flashing tools from here: (N9FanClub.com)Nokia_N9_Flashing_Tools_NaviFirm_Screenshots.zip

Contents of Flashing Tools

  • (N9FanClub.com)WinFlasher_3.12.1.exe for Windows
  • (N9FanClub.com)NaviFirmEx_1_5_portable
2. Extract the contents of zip archive you had downloaded above.

3. Run the NaviFirm and download the latest available firmware (PR 1.1 = v20.2011.40-4_PR_005) for your device. (Its a huge download around 1GB) (You should first try to find the firmware that suits your device product code, you can find it on the back of SIM tray).

  • 3.1: Files: Selected all files and clicked the Download button
    • 3.1.1: Be patient when selecting the server and other settings, at-least for me it took a few moments to load the lists after some of the selections.
(If the latest release for instance PR 1.1 v20.2011.40-4_PR_005 is not yet available for your desired product code, don't panic, still you can download and flash the firmware of any other variant / product code with same storage capacity.

Just make sure the following things:

  • You must download the firmware with and storage capacity, for instance, I own Nokia N9 with 16GB, now I'll be required to download the firmware that has got 16GB label with it, just open the NaviFirm and you'll be able to see it. Using 16GB flash file on 64GB version and vice versa might brick your beautiful Nokia N9.
  • The PR version mentioned here: v20.2011.40-4_PR_005 must be equal to 005 or greater than 005. For instance your device shows PR_005, you cannot use the firmware having PR_004 or less. (You can check it via Settings>About Product>Version)
4. Now install (N9FanClub.com)WinFlasher_3.12.1.exe and perform the flash

I've managed to do the flash on Windows 7 - 32bit with these steps:
  • 4.1: Copy the firmware files to the Flasher installation folder (where the flasher.exe is)
  • 4.2: Connect your N9 via USB while turned off. Turn on the power and select 'Sync and Connect' mode
  • 4.3: Open CMD (Go to Start menu -> Select Run -> Type in CMD and hit enter)
  • 4.4: Change directory to where you have the flasher and the firmware files
    • 4.4.1: (I have them in C:\Program Files\Nokia\Flasher, so command I used was: CD C:\Program Files\Nokia\Flasher)
  • 4.5: Type in flasher -F FIRMWAREIMAGE.bin -f  on CMD
    • 4.5.1: Naturally replace the FIRMWAREIMAGE.bin to match your firmware file or just rename it to n9fanclub.bin making it short and simple. With the firmware file mentioned before, the command would become:  flasher -F n9fanclub.bin -f
    • 4.5.2: (Make sure you'll type the command as it is, because its case sensitive, i.e, f is not equal to F and vice versa)
  • 4.6: The flasher should open, detect the device and start the flashing process

(I had to restart the phone once since the flasher didn't seem to find the phone: turned off the device -> waited ~30sec and restarted -> selected sync and connect -> found, this step is important and might require to be performed several times before you can set your device into flash mode.)

After the flashing has been completed, you must remove the USB cable from your Nokia N9, it will process the update on phone therefore first power-on will take a while. You know its doing something while it keeps flashing the little white light in the lower left corner.
