How to enable digital Zoom in / out during Video Recording on Nokia N9 - MeeGo Harmattan - PR 1.1 - Tweak

Nokia N9's default video recording doesn't allow to ZOOM IN / OUT DURING THE VIDEO RECORDING unlike Nokia N8. We came across a simple tweak to enable the digital zoom in and out functions during the video recording on Nokia N9's default video recording app. Just follow the simple steps below and you'll be done with it.

Note: Make sure you are on PR 1.1 firmware or above to make this tweak work. (You can check your phone's firmware version from Settings => About Product => Version => PR 1.1 or above) If you are not on PR 1.1, this method won't be working. You can manually flash PR 1.1 firmware on your Nokia N9 using our tutorial.

1. Download video.conf and copy it to your Nokia N9 using data cable.

2. Enable Developer Mode: Go to Settings > Security  > Developer Mode and slide the developer mode toggle to the on position.  Take note of and accept the warning. The first time you enable developer mode the N9 will download some files (so you need a network connection) and reboot.

3. Launch the Terminal: When Developer Mode is enabled, a Terminal icon app appears on the N9′s Applications home screen (image below, left).  Tap it to launch the terminal.

4. Become root (superuser): The command to become root in Meego/Harmattan is “devel-su”. The default password is “rootme”.
So type the following:
devel-su
Password: rootme

The shell prompt will change from $ to # to indicate that your are now the root user.

5. Now type and enter the following command on terminal to copy camera.conf file from N9's default storage directory to root level etc directory:
cp /home/user/MyDocs/camera.conf /etc/camera.conf

6. It would just display the # symbol after entering the command into Terminal.

7. Restart your Nokia N9 to apply these changes on Nokia N9's camera app.

8. Voila your Nokia N9 will now be able to Zoom in / out video during recording.

How to remove / roll back this Tweak to original configuration?

Open Terminal and Root it using the method mentioned above, and enter the following command:
rm /etc/camera.conf

Solution for Installation Package not Found Error is now available.
